HEALTH PROBLEMS RELATED TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Long after the bruises, the broken bones and other physical wounds are healed, there are the signs of domestic violence that are not seen. These invisible signs manifest in various ways and can lead to many chronic health problems. These health problems are usually overlooked, not recognized, or not even attributed to the abuse.
Many women do not immediately relate or understand that abuse has or has had an affect on their overall health a tremendous impact on their health. Female victims or survivors of domestic violence are more likely to experience health problems than women who have not experienced any violence or abuse.
In addition to the violence that many women endure from domestic violence is the emotional baggage that is associated with it, that becomes internalized affecting health and their well-being that can cause long term health problems.
The emotional or psychological suffering can be challenging and difficult to recover from or understand even years after the abuse, after the separation or the divorce is over, the fear is gone, and the pain no longer exist.
Domestic violence is a problem that we all should be concerned about and want it to be eradicated. It does not discriminate and it crosses all boundaries. This violence is in every community affecting people regardless of marital status, professional status, race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, income, physical ability or sexual orientation.
